Archery must be one of the oldest sports to grace the Olympics, but not with the sophisticated equipment that competitors use in the sport today.
As the Olympics have changed considerably over the centuries since it was born, Archery has been one of the sports that has been replaced and has replaced sports many times over the course of the Olympics.
Officially it joined the competition in 1900 up until 1920 then was not considered again until 1972 but since then has been an ever present at the games, with the team event being added in 1988, and has now become many people?s favourite event including mine.
Rules and how to play Archery
Archery equipment wise has to be possibly the most expensive form of a hobby, arrows, finger, arm and chest guards, the bow itself which look like they cost thousands each, then of course all the little things like gloves, quiver to hold your arrows, and a target.
You must stand at a target approx 70 m away; aiming at ten multicoloured rings trying to hit the centre for the most points and each ring from the centre your score goes down by a point etc.
Each competitor has six rounds of three arrows with a time limit of up to 40 seconds per shot, with the winner being the one who has accumulated the most points in the game.
