The Ascot Racecourse was founded by Queen Anne in 1711, and Ascot is the world’s most famous racecourse’s, which stages top quality Flat and Jump racing throughout the year. The highlight is Royal Ascot week, which is held in June every year and it combines tradition, pageantry, style and fashion with five days of the greatest horseracing in the world.
There are two Race Courses at Ascot, one is the flat course, which is a Right-handed triangle, galloping and stiff, with few undulations, Just over 1 mile 6 furlongs round, with 2 – furlong run-in. Straight mile and round mile. All races up to 7f on straight course. The second course is The National Hunt Course and it is a Right-handed, galloping course, with stiff fences and a circuit 1 mile 5 furlongs long.
All race goers are encouraged to dress smartly. In the Members’ Enclosure, gentlemen should always wear a shirt and tie and Shorts and trainers are not permitted. Many ladies do wear hats although this is not obligatory. Dress for Royal Ascot: The Royal Enclosure is a very special part of Royal Ascot, and all visitors are required to respect the dress code. Ladies are asked to wear formal day dress. A hat must be worn to cover the crown of the head and shoulders must be covered. Trouser suits are permitted, but must be of matching material. Gentlemen require black or grey morning dress with a top hat. Service dress may also be worn. Overseas visitors are welcome to wear the national dress of their country in this enclosure.
