Australian Formula 1 star Mark Webber is optimistic about his recovery following an horrific mountain biking accident that left him with a shattered leg

Webber was competing in The Pure Tasmania Challenge, a series of events in which celebrities and sports stars compete against each other in Mountain Biking and other outdoors sports when he and teammate Daniel McPherson rounded a bend into the path of an oncoming four wheel drive.

His major concern is to be ready for his home fans at the Melbourne Grand Prix and promised he would be fighting fit come next March.

Team Red Bull has thrown their full support behind Webber to ensure their number 1 drive gets the absolute best rehabilitation in order to be ready for available for testing in February.

The crash could not be more untimely for Webber who is under pressure from new teammate and rising star Sebasttian Vettel who scored a win for team Red Bull in this year’s Italian Grand Prix to become the youngest ever winner of a Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Webber has drawn on inspirational sporting figures like Anna Meares and Lance Armstrong who overcame adversity to triumph.

He also points out that Michael Shcumacher broke his leg in an accident and went on to win five world championships.

Webber will remain in Hobart for the rest of the week awaiting news from Europe as to his recovery plan.
