Bet365.com – Jelena Dokic is set to continue her roller coaster ride of a career with a return to the professional circuit.
Born in Blegrade in 1983, she moved to Australia where, under the watchful eye of her father Damir, quickly developed as a prodigious talent with tennis racquet in hand.
Her rise to fame peaked in 1998 when she was ranked the number one junior tennis player in the world and was set to take the world of women’s professional tennis by storm.
Just two years later she reached the semi-final of Wimbledon, a feat not achieved since the great Evonne Cawley.
Unfortunately for Jelena, her father’s off court antics would make headlines ahead of his daughter’s tennis ability and subsequently he moved her out of Australia.
He was ejected from stadiums all around the world for offenses ranging from drunk and disorderly behaviour to abuse to arguing over he price of salmon.
In 2002, having moved back to Serbia at the request of her father, Dokic broke into the top five to reach her highest ever ATP ranking of fourth.
Following this was a spectacular slide all the way down to 349 in 2004 meaning she couldn’t even get a game on the professional circuit.
In 2005 however, she severed all ties with father Damir and is now fit and ready for a comeback that could very well be her last shot at cracking the big time.
