This Saturday May 24th was the night Ricky Hattan came back home and put his light welterweight belts on the line. His opponent Juan Lazcano proved to be one hell of a gutsy South American and even Hattan admitted after the fight that he had never been as nervous before a fight before.
The fight itself started at a frantic pace with Hattan using his jab constantly and scoring points against the bigger looking man with a 7 inch reach difference that Hattan done well to avoid to be quite honest with you. As the fight got into the later stages the Lazcano started to get into his stride and once or twice looked to be starting to get the better of Hatton, who was stunned in rounds eight and ten with solid looking blows to the head, Hattan managed to hold on and win on points quite easily in the end and will now be hopeful a big unification fight with current IBF light-welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi, which should be on paper a somewhat easier fight.
If the so called ? Magic Man,? Malignaggi who struggled far more than Hatton last night, in winning a split decision over relatively unknown boxer Lovemore N’dou.
