It is hoped the Great Britain team will finish no lower than fourth in the medal table when London hosts the Games in 2012.
The Athens medal haul in 2004 was disappointing, however, despite the outstanding contributions of Dame Kelly Holmes, who won the women’s 1,500 and 800metres, and the men’s 4×100m relay team, who also struck gold it was a disastrous Olympics for the track and field stars of Great Britain.
Only Kelly Sotherton, who won bronze in the women’s heptathlon, added to the tally from the track and field section, with most of the 30 medals coming in either rowing, cycling or sailing.
But for me the men have to improve 100% in Beijing after their only medal at the last Olympics came from the 100m relay team which quite frankly is no where good enough for a country that is staging the games in 4 years time in London.
Team Great Britain who are spending so much money from grass roots level to the top, with the majority of the money being spent on better Coaching, Facilities virtually on every Olympic sport we can as fans surely expect a better haul of medals in Beijing with the main aim of trying to finish in the top four in the medal table in London in 4 years time.
