Score - Chelsea 1 Everton 1
Chelsea started of the game in great form, but it was Everton that nearly opened the scoring in the 15th minute of the game when Leon Osman headed a great cross into the path of Steven Pienaar in the penalty area, but he was just unable to connect with the ball as it bounced dangerously inside the penalty area.
Chelsea then quickly retaliated with a quick counter attack, although this led to nothing due to Shaun Wright-Phillips delivering a wasted ball which ended up strolling over the to the opposite wing and a throw in was given.
Chelsea then lost Ricardo Cavalho in the 26th minute as he fell awkwardly trying to clear the ball and he was replaced by the Israeli defender Tal Ben Haim. Chelsea should have taken the lead despite the changes when Drogba crossed the ball in to frank Lampard at the far post but he unfortunately missed.
Howard Everton’s goalkeeper was on fire and he looked like he was stopping them for fun as the shots kept coming. In the 33rd minute Drogba had better luck, and he had to jump to meet the corner but once again the header was stopped by the talented goalkeeper, as the ball went shooting against the bar. A free kick was later given as Phil Neville was penalized, but once again another miss.
Chelsea broke through again down the left wing with Wayne Bridge and he then played a ball to Wright-Phillips who spotted Drogba in the six yard box, he crossed the ball in but, Drogba completely missed it. Another sub was made by Everton this time, a double sub, Yakubu and captain Neville were replaced by James McFadden and Victor Anichebe at half time. It was a very exciting second half with two goals, one coming from the Chelsea side with Lampard sticking in a wonderful chip around the post.
However Chelsea’s luck wasn’t on their side when Cahill struck a magnificent over head kick which flew into the back of the net.
What a brilliant and exciting game this was, with lots of action and near misses!
