Coral Sports – It’s as traditional as turkey and tinsel at Christmas and for many sports fans Boxing day equals King George day.

Kempton’s blue riband event, the King George VI Chase, takes it’s place among the stockings again on boxing day but recent races have had the same effect as an uncooked roast turkey, they’ve really shaken things up.
Former gold cup winner Kauto Star, whose looking to stamp his name in this races history along side the likes of Desert Orchid and win this race for the third time in a row, will come here off the back of a shock result.
After reappearing this season at Down Royal and looking really impressive whilst blowing the field away, Paul Nicholl’s star then returned to his last fence jitters during the Betfair Chase at Haydock and not only struggled at the final obstacle but unseated his rider. It’s a common site to see Kauto walk through the last but he usually stays on his feet and the latest aberration, which saw him go from odds on to 6/4 to take the boxing day contest, has really alerted some of his rivals.
One such is Tidal Bay and if his connections didn’t have this in the diary they should now be booking transport and telling their relative that they won’t be able to make dinner as they have a high class race to win. Granted on best form it would appear that Kauto has the beating of the Howard Johnson trained horse, but the Arkle Trophy winner was very impressive in his seasonal debut at Carlisle on his last outing and showed all the making of a really top class chaser. He’s certainly one who should in tie take over from his more decorated rival and is open to improvement and if the favourite is not at the top of his game Tidal Bay could begin his own legacy.
