Pickering will feel he not only has to make a successful first title defence but also prove his critics wrong after a points loss against Sean Hughes at the back end of last year. He since got his revenge in January stopping Hughes in the ninth round to claim his title. Despite that victory the cloud of the earlier defeat still surround sthe Nottinghamshire boxer but a convincing win on Friday night should go a long way to lifting that. Pickering has his eyes on a European title shot after this against Rendall Munroe or depending on the manner of victory may even get a chance at IBF world champion Steve Molito.

The 31-year-old’s credentials are pretty good. He has been beaten six times in 39 fights and has only been KO’d once, which is good news for fight fans as Marsh has stopped his opponents just once in nine outings suggesting the bout looks set for the distance.

Matthew Marsh will be hoping to use this fight as a way to really get back on the boxing map after his first professional defeat back in October last year. His team arranged him to fight the struggling Ajibu Salum to get his confidence back in February and he duly obliged with a first round knock out. He has the ability to test the champion but ultimately will probably be just short.
