This years US masters at Augusta was full of exciting and nerve wracking golf at times. Tiger Woods once again was perched around the top of the Leader board for the entire competition but it was South African Trevor Immelman who won the event by 3 shots from Tiger in 2nd place. Only 4 months ago Mr Immelman was having surgery to remove a benign tumour so this really is an impressive return to the top ranks of the golfing world.

Before this weekend, Immelman’s best stroke play finish since his return from surgery in January was 40th so this really is a marvellous achievement. Having missed the cut in his last event at the The Houston Open few would have thought he could make the top 10 here never mind coming out on top but it makes it all the more wonderful that he has.
One man who thought he could win was Gary Player who incidentally set a new masters record being the only player to make 51 masters appearances at the tender age of 72 and until now was the only South African to don the famous green jacket given to the winner of the event .
Having only won 1 PGA tour title in the past Immelman?s career is surely about to take off after this effort and as it gives more competition to Tiger so it can be only good for the neutral golf fan.
