The Paddy Power Gold cup first became part of the horse racing calendar in 1960 and since then it has seen a number of name changes. The Paddy Power Gold cup as we know it today was first called ‘The Mackeson Gold Cup’, but in 1966 the horserace changed sponsorship and became the The Murphy’s Gold Cup and in 2000, the name of this horse race was once again changed to £The Thomas Pink Gold Cup and the latest change, to the name as we know this great horse meeting today “The Paddy Power Gold Cup” was in 2003 when the Irish bookmakers Paddy Power, sponsored the race for five years.

The Paddy Power Gold cup is held at Cheltenham and it is the first major horseracing meeting of the National Hunt season, this great event is help of three days, or which the Paddy Power Gold Cup is the highlight, this race is run over 2 miles and 5 furlongs and takes place on the second day and there are a number of other good featured races at this event.

The first ever winner of the Paddy Power Gold Cup was Fortria back in 1960 and Fortria won again with the same Jockey Pat Taafee in 1962. Only four other hourses have ever won this great race twice and the most recent was Cyfor Malta who won in 1998 and then again in 2002.
