With no big Group 1 races of note taking place recently in the world of Horse racing it was left to the Ayr Gold Cup to be the main race of the weekend and with a packed race full of horses that like to sprint up the hill to the finish in one of the big sprint races of the season it was David Nicholls who does have a knack of churning out very good sprinters that had a marvellous day with both his horses coming in the first two places to leave everybody who works at his stables with big smiles on their faces.

First to come home was Regal Parade who was ridden by William Carson who is the Grandson of the famous old little jockey himself Willie Carson and even though he had never met trainer David before today’s race he gave a good account of himself and snatched the race from under everyone’s noses on the 18/1 winner, Adrian Nicholls who incidentally is trainer David’s son gave up the chance to ride the winner and decided to go with the eventual 2nd placed Tajneed to help his dad to a brilliant 1-2 finish of a race that he has managed to win a staggering five times which when you consider how hard it is to win this race once is a truly magnificent achievement.

David has now stated that he would like to take the winner Regal parade to Dubai to race over their because it is quite clear that this horse really does have a sprinting future.
