It came right down to the wire in the this year, with both Seb Sanders and Jamie Spencer both still in the running to win. Seb was one point ahead of Jamie going into Saturdays racing, and it all added to this dramatic climax, when the Jockey’s Championship was decided on the very last race. During Saturdays racing there were Photo finishes, a late non runner and also an unexpected tumble.
Seb Sanders had already got at least a share of the Jockey Championship title going into the last race, and Jamie Spencer needed a victory to tie. It was a truly dramatic finish and Spencer timed his run to absolute perfection. Both men have rode in more than 2,000 races over the last seven months, and they both finished on 190 points each to tie with each other in the 2007 Jockey’s Championship. Both Jockey’s congratulated each other after this gruelling duel. The Jockey’s Championships has only ever been shared three times in the History of flat racing and the last time was in 1923 when Charlie Elliott and Steve Donoghue tied and before that it was when Charlie Maidment and George Fordham tied in 1870/71.
