Ladbrokes.com – After this year’s Grand National it is easy to understand why this race is probably the most betted on race anywhere in the World.

After rank outsider Mon Mome easily won this year’s race at a canter by at least 15 lengths it was hard to believe that it actually went off at the remarkable price of 100/1. Last year’s winner Comply or die was set off at the price of 14/1 and with Timmy Murphy on board it was a decent price being offered, this year’s favourite was My Will ridden by champion Cheltenham jockey Ruby Walsh and with three fences left in this year’s race it was between the winner himself and Comply or die.

Liam Treadwell on board Mon Mome was riding in his first Grand National but you would never have guessed by the way he jumped clear at the last fence to open up a massive gap leaving Comply or die, My Will and State of play and Cerium to fight out the minor places and who finished in that order.

Looking back over the last three years at the finishes of the great race I could not notice how high the prices of all the placed horses were, apart from last year when Comply or die who had a late rush of money put on it in the last few days before the race making it co favourite at 7/1 every horse last year that was placed was in double figures.

Three years ago Silver Birch won the race at a hefty 33/1 and in fact in the last three years and the fact the race now pays out on the 1st five finishes there has only been two horses Comply or Die 1st last year 7/1 and My Will 3rd at a price of 8/1 this year that have been placed in single figures, the other 13 have all been in double figures making this a very lucrative race for the punter if you know a bit about your jump horses.
