Bar 1904 and 1928 Shooting has played a part at every Olympic Games, nowadays there are many different shooting events unlike when it was reintroduced in 1932 when there were just 2. In the Olympics today there are fifth teen different shooting events, nine for the men and six for the women, they are a mixture of rifle, pistol, and running target events.

Shooting is very much a rich man?s sport with expensive clothing and apparel needed to start the sport such as a shooting jacket, shooting pants, shooting shoes, and a shooting glove and of course a rifle or a pistol.

One interesting fact regarding this sport is the remarkable age of Oscar Swahn, who is the oldest Olympic competitor ever, having participated in the 1920 team contest at the tender age of 72 years and 280 days, remarkably managing to win a silver medal!

Perhaps even more remarkable is Hungarian army sergeant Karoly Takacs, who managed to overcome major injury when a presumed faulty grenade blew up in his right hand in the war leaving him having to teach himself to shoot with his left hand, which must have paid off because he somehow managed to win the Gold medal at the London 1948 games breaking the world record at the same time and defending his title four years later in Helsinki.

Today the sport is growing and is one of them sports that really intrigue me so come Beijing I for one will be watching in anticipation at who wins the medals.
