Brazil have proved to be a very tough opponent for England over the years and England have only beaten Brazil three times in twenty games. England v Brazil in the World Cup tournament is becoming a classic paring and this will be the fourth time that they have faced them in this competition.

The first time that England drew Brazil in their group was in Sweden in 1958 and they drew their second group match against them 0-0 and this match went down in history, making it the first goalless draw in World Cup History. The next time England meet Brazil was four years later in China and this time it was in the quarter final and England lost this game 3-1. England’s third and most recent clash with Brazil, who at the time had won this prestigious competition four times, was in Mexico in 1970, Brazil went on once again to beat England and the score was 1-0 this time, Brazil then went on to win the competition.

All England’s Wins against Brazil have occurred in friendlies and their first win against them was at Wembley in 1956 where they won 4-2. England’s second win was in 1984 and they had lost disappointingly earlier in to the USSR, and just eight days later they had to take on Brazil, the Brazilians who had not lost at their world famous stadium for 27 years, were said to be on a different plant to the England side, but England shocked everyone by beating them 2-0 and it was a major triumph for them. England won again against Brazil in 1990 at Wembley in front of a crowd of 80,000 fans and it was a great confidence booster for them.
