The English Football League. There are four major league in English football with a total of 92 football teams making up the full 92. The Premier League has 20 competing teams where as the other three leagues have 24 teams in each of them. Every team play every other team in their league twice in a season both home and away, with the obvious aim to gain as many points as possible. The way to win points is by beating your opposition or holding them to a draw.
A victory wins you three points, a draw gives both teams one point each and all league matches are played over 90 minutes with an additional 15 minutes in the middle for a break, this is known as “half-time”. The bottom three teams in the Premier League get relegated to the Championship and three teams move in the opposite direction up into the Premiership. The Championship then have three teams relegated too with three teams from League One getting promoted, then the same process happens from League 1 into League 2 and vice versa.
To gain promotion from the Championship, Leagues 1 & 2 you need to finish in the top two positions to gain automatic promotion, then the way the third team gets promoted is by a play-off contesting of the teams who finished 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th. 3rd and 6th play each other home and away as do the teams in 4th and 5th and then the two winner play each other in the ‘final’ at the world famous Wembley Stadium.
