www.ladbroke.com – It seems like the recent financial crisis has spared no one. Honda has announced that they will be pulling out from its involvement in the Formula One after 40 over years, which the Japanese company was involved with since the 1960s. Honda says its exit is due to the financial crisis which has seen its cash reserves dwindled, and could not maintain its expensive "pastime".
Some say Honda has given up, given its poor performance as a full constructor since returning in 2006. But regardless, Honda’s exit has been faced with much criticism and tears, as many remembers in the many years that Honda was involved with the race, whether it won or lost, it just went on its way.
Honda was accused of deserting fans, after declaring that ‘racing is our DNA’. Honda was also accused of being socially irresponsible by abandoning the sport.
Over the many years that Honda has been involved with the high profile motor sport even, it has only managed 3 wins. However, their engines have powered an incredible 69 victories, including legends like Aryton Senna and Alain Prost.
Perhaps the one that were hurt the most by the decision of Honda are none other but the Japanese. It appears that Honda’s success in the European dominated event is important in helping the Japanese establish a footprint, and gave the Japanese a sense of pride.
For the Japanese children, F1 is a great goal, but with Honda’s exiting, that goal may not be achievable. Perhaps, we can only hope that as the world economy takes a upbeat note, Honda may return and continue its legacy in Formula 1′s history.
